Ex-UN Chief is to Visit Syria as Envoy of UN and Arab League

Annan said after a Wednesday meeting with current UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in New York that he would “expect to go to Syria fairly soon” and that he has called for a “peaceful solution” to the unrest in the country through dialogue.

UN officials said the former secretary general plans to fly to the Egyptian capital Cairo on Friday to meet with Arab League Secretary General Nabil al-Arabi.
