Venezuela's Chavez Shamed by Discovery of Rotten Food

Somewhere, Hugo Chavez is blushing. Having openly blamed his country's food shortages on opposition forces and private industries, the president of Venezuela has been eating his words since authorities uncovered 1,200 shipping containers of rotting food at a state-run warehouse.

How much food does that amount to? Thirty thousand tons of past-date milk, rice and wheat flour.

National Assembly foreign policy committee deputy Saul Ortega, who called the event "immoral," says that food such as the staples discovered in the storage facility is imported at a discount by social programs and is meant for populations who really need it.
