Last week Fox News.com posted a fairly standard hit-pieceon the Face on Mars, showing what they purported to be a “new” picture of it which proves it’s just a pile of rocks. As with other postings by other news outlets over the years, this one was full of the usual distortions, inaccuracies and out-right falsehoods which characterize the mainstream media coverage of Cydonia and Mars in general. For one thing, the “new” image was actually taken and released in 2007, hardly “new.” It also shows an extreme, high-resolution close-up of details of the nose area of the Face next to the old original Viking data from the 1970′s, which is a wide angle view. This serves to confuse anyone who isn’t familiar with the landform. I assume this was the intention.
Now having looked at this issue for years — and being intimately familiar with the Face and other Monuments on Mars, I can look at this image and see all kinds of details revealing it as artificial. But the truth is most people need help understanding why walls don’t form at 90 degree angles to each other naturally.
The bottom line is that this new media assault on the Face won’t un-convince anyone who has studied the controversy around the Face’s artificiality in any depth, and it wasn’t meant to.
