OK, this is getting silly now. David Cameron has just announced he’s going to publish his own draft EU referendum Bill. I say “his”, but I’m not 100 per cent sure precisely what that means, given that the Government can’t publish a Bill because that would require the approval of the Lib Dems, and they apparently haven’t even been consulted.
Anyway, a Bill is apparently going to appear from somewhere. But it’s not clear how, or even if, it’s going to be different from the “rebel amendment” that Tory MPs were planning to table to the Queen’s Speech. Rebel leader John Baron certainly isn’t sure, because I’ve just seen him on TV saying he’s going to stick to his own amendment because it’s much, much better.
