On Saturday, police used tear gas and batons in an attempt to halt the march in Lima, the Associated Press reported.
The protest was staged by students against a bill --that if passed-- would reduce university autonomy, and by workers who took to the streets against a new civil service law that they say could bring massive dismissals.
