Following years of silence by the international community, the world has suddenly rediverted its attention towards Iraq. On June 25, 2014, for the first time since the US-invasion in 2003, the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights released a statement delivered by the Deputy High Commissioner, Flavia Pansieri, requesting the Council to convene in a Special Session to address the current humanitarian crisis in the state and region.
