US stocks fall on growing fears about growth

New York (AFP) - Wall Street stocks dropped in early trade Wednesday as growth fears reverberated through global equity markets following lackluster economic data in the US and abroad.

About 40 minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average stood at 16,180.17, down 135.02 points (0.83 percent), paring much heavier opening losses that dragged the blue-chip index below 16,000.

Analysts cited fears about global growth as a primary driver for the sell-off. Equity markets in Britain, France and Germany all fell more than two percent .... http://news.yahoo.com
