Russia buys record amounts of gold


Russia’s Central Bank bought a record amount of gold during the first eleven months of 2014, spending an approximately $6.1 billion on gold bullion.

According to research by Thomson Reuters GFMS (Gold Fields Mineral Services), Russia’s gold purchases made up a third of the world’s total of 461 tons. The amount of gold bullion purchased by Russia increased by 123 percent from the previous year, reaching 152 tons of gold bullion, an amount worth over $6 billion at current prices.
