George Clooney Advocates For Sudan Intervention



U.S actor George Clooney visited President Barack Obama at the White House Tuesday to ask the U.S. to take preemptive measures to protect the people of Sudan from violence in preparation for the country's upcoming elections.
Clooney told reporters he asked Obama to do everything possible to contain violence in the African nation in the lead-up to a January 9 independence referendum for the south Sudan -- the result of which is expected to ignite further tensions.
Southern Sudan's mostly African Christian and animist population is expected to vote for separation from the mainly Arab and Muslim north.
After his Tuesday meeting with Obama, the 49-year-old actor said he was impressed by Obama's commitment to the northeast African nation which has been plagued by genocide and conflict .... Read more at http://www.myfoxmemphis.com
