Japan’s Okinawa elects governor opposed to US air base

Exit polls in the Japanese southern island of Okinawa show that the residents have elected a governor who opposes the relocation of a controversial US military base within the island chain.

Voters in the southern prefecture on Sunday chose former mayor, Takeshi Onaga, as the new governor to succeed the incumbent Hirokazu Nakaima.

Nakaima is supported by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and his party, who wants to continue works on the relocation of the base in the prefecture in Japan’s far south ..... http://www.presstv.ir
