With winter weather looming, CNY drivers rush to get snow tires

Oneida, N.Y. -- Customers started flocking earlier than usual this year to get their snow tires installed at Silver City Tires on Route 5.

"It started probably two weeks early," said general manager Tony Armstrong. "I think people got caught off guard last winter, and it was worse than usual."

The calls started coming in the middle of last month, Armstrong said, and the last 10 days "have been just crazy."

Tire stores say the number of customers calling to get snow tires accelerated this week with cold temperatures and the possibility of lake effect snow approaching this weekend. But this is nothing compared to what will happen after the first snow of the season hits, said Joshua Sterling, manager of the Firestone store on Erie Boulevard in Syracuse .... http://www.syracuse.com
