Bitter Arctic blast could bring record cold

Many college students dream of spending spring break in the sunshine, sand and waves, but Richard Hofer isn't one of them.

The 21-year-old Carnegie Mellon University senior spent a frigid and windy Sunday practicing for an upcoming trip to Maine — by snow sailing on Flagstaff Hill in Oakland.

“Ten miles per hour is where it starts getting pretty fun,” the Connecticut native said as he prepared a multicolored kite to pull him while strapped to a snowboard. “Ideally, 15 or 20 (mph) is what is needed, but I work with what I have.”

Meteorologists with the National Weather Service in Moon issued a wind chill advisory through Monday morning as 10 to 20 mph winds were expected to produce wind chills as low as minus 30 .... http://triblive.com
