Torrance ExxonMobil Refinery Rocked by Large Explosion; Earthquake-Like Shaking Reported (California )

Residents had reported hearing an explosion coming from the direction and feeling the ground shake, Torrance fire Capt. Steve Deaul said shortly before 9:30 a.m.

Several viewers reported the shaking felt like an earthquake-type motion.

The blast at the refinery, which is located in the 3700 block of West 190th Street (map), was described as a “second-alarm fire explosion,” according to the Torrance Police Department.

Del Amo Boulevard was temporarily closed between Maple Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard, and Torrance police officials were advising that the area be avoided.

Air quality readings were within the normal range and an air quality warning has not been issued, police said .... http://ktla.com
