Winter storm knocked out power to more than 400,000 over three days


Duke Energy (NYSE:DUK) says last week's winter storm knocked out power to more than 400,000 Carolinas customers over three days. The most out any one time was about 220,000 customers who found themselves in the dark early Feb. 25.

The storms did the most damage in the Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill region. There were more than 160,000 customers without power in that area at the peak.

Charlotte-based Duke donated $25,000 to the American Red Cross serving the Triangle area late last week as the organization opened shelters to provide relief to displaced families .... http://www.bizjournals.com
