Peru doubts OAS proposal to suspend Venezuela will proceed

Peru's foreign minister called a proposal to suspend Venezuela from the Organization Of American States (OAS) "extreme" and said on Wednesday it likely would not have sufficient support of member states.

Luis Almagro, secretary general of the OAS, said on Tuesday Venezuela should be suspended if it does not hold general elections as soon as possible.

Venezuelan authorities last year blocked a referendum sought by the opposition to recall President Nicolas Maduro, and they have also delayed local elections where the ruling Socialists were expected to fare badly amid an economic crisis .... http://www.reuters.com
