Evidence of Mars water interaction discovered

A team of Scottish scientists have uncovered the first evidence that water once dissolved on the surface of Mars.

• Tests carried out on meteorite which landed in Egypt in 1911

• Evidence found of water reacting with other substances

The search to prove there was once another “blue planet” in the solar system is a quest which has gathered pace since Mariner 9 made its first observations in 1971 of dried up rivers on Mars.

Last year Nasa’s Curiosity rover took images of rounded stones indicating they were transported along rivers.

Now scientists from the University of Glasgow working with the Scottish Universities Environmental Research Centre and London’s Natural History Museum have moved the observational research forward by revealing they have found water on a meteorite from the Red Planet .... http://www.scotsman.com
