Weight-loss balloons swallowed rather than surgically inserted in the stomach are shown to be safe and effective
Paris (AFP) - Weight-loss balloons swallowed rather than surgically inserted in the stomach were shown to be safe and effective in preliminary trials, according to findings unveiled Thursday at a medical conference.
So-called intragastric balloons have been used for decades to help obese patients shed unwanted kilos. Inflated with water, the devices curb hunger and make it easier to diet by inducing a feeling if fullness.
Up to now, however, they could only be implanted in the stomach surgically, a costly procedure requiring general anaesthesia or sedation .... https://www.yahoo.com

Dumping medicine, faking patients: Cuban doctors describe a system that breeds fraud
Since 2003, Cuba has been sending battalions of doctors to Venezuela in exchange for cash and crude.
The program, known as Barrio Adentro, offers free medical care to some of the nation’s poorest. It’s been credited with saving more than a million lives and is one of the pillars of the socialist revolution.
But according to health workers who have defected from the program, Barrio Adentro has been hollowed out by fraud. And they say they were under such intense pressure to hit quotas that they’ve been faking statistics for years .... http://www.miamiherald.com

As millions go hungry in Venezuela, the military has turned food trafficking into a business comparable with drugs
But instead of fighting hunger, the military is making money from it, an Associated Press investigation shows. That's what grocer Jose Campos found when he ran out of pantry staples this year. In the middle of the night, he would travel to an illegal market run by the military to buy corn flour — at 100 times the government-set price.
"The military would be watching over whole bags of money," Campos said. "They always had what I needed."
With much of the oil country on the verge of starvation and malnourished children dying in pediatric wards, food trafficking has become big business in Venezuela. And the military is at the heart of the graft, according to documents and interviews with more than 60 officials, company owners and workers, including five former generals .... http://bigstory.ap.org

One in six Americans takes a psychiatric drug
One in six U.S. adults reported taking a psychiatric drug, such as an antidepressant or a sedative, in 2013, a new study found.
The new data comes from an analysis of the 2013 Medical Expenditure Panel Survey (MEPS), which gathered information on the cost and use of health care in the United States.
An earlier government report, from 2011, found that just over one in 10 adults reported taking prescription drugs for "problems with emotions, nerves or mental health," the authors wrote in a research letter published today (Dec. 12) in the journal JAMA Internal Medicine .... https://www.scientificamerican.com

California petitions to become first state to offer ObamaCare to illegal immigrants
California’s health care exchange is requesting that it be allowed a waiver from ObamaCare regulations in order to allow illegal immigrants to buy insurance on the exchange – which would make California the first state to extend ObamaCare to illegal immigrants.
In a Sept. 30 letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell, Covered California’s Executive Director Peter Lee said that the Affordable Care Act has been “tremendously successful” in the state and has cut the rate of uninsured in half.
“While millions of Californians have benefitted from coverage purchased through the Covered California marketplace, certain individuals are prohibited from buying insurance through our state marketplace due to their immigration status,” Lee wrote, before requesting the waiver .... http://www.foxnews.com

Why Do Obese Patients Get Worse Care? Many Doctors Don’t See Past the Fat
One in three Americans is obese, a rate that has been steadily growing for more than two decades, but the health care system — in its attitudes, equipment and common practices — is ill prepared, and its practitioners are often unwilling, to treat the rising population of fat patients.
The difficulties range from scales and scanners, like M.R.I. machines that are not built big enough for very heavy people, to surgeons who categorically refuse to give knee or hip replacements to the obese, to drug doses that have not been calibrated for obese patients. The situation is particularly thorny for the more than 15 million Americans who have extreme obesity — a body mass index of 40 or higher — and face a wide range of health concerns .... http://www.nytimes.com

541,000 Japanese aged 15-39 confine themselves in their homes: survey
TOKYO (Kyodo) -- An estimated 541,000 people between the ages of 15 and 39 in Japan avoid social contact and shut themselves in their homes, a government survey showed Wednesday.
The figure compares with the previous Cabinet Office survey in 2010 that showed an estimated 696,000 such people -- known as "hikikomori" -- across the country. Despite the decline, the latest survey does not give an overall picture of the full extent of the phenomenon as it did not include those aged 40 or older.
But the survey does highlight a trend in which people who have withdrawn from society have done so for longer periods, as those who have shut themselves in their homes for at least seven years accounted for about 35 percent of the total.
It also showed that the number of such reclusive people between the ages of 35 and 39 has doubled, according to the survey .... http://mainichi.jp

"Fukushima Has Now Contaminated 1/3 Of The Worlds Oceans"
The Pacific Ocean – in fact almost one-third of the Globe – is thought to have been contaminated from the leak out from the Fukushima Nuclear Disaster.
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), seeking to promote the peaceful use of Nuclear Power, in 2011 established with the Regional Cooperative Agreement (RCA) Member States, a joint IAEA Technical Cooperation (TC) project in the region of the Pacific Ocean. It was established after the Fukushima disaster when a tsunami caused by a major earthquake on 11 March 2011, disabled the power supply and cooling of three Fukushima Daiichi reactors, causing a nuclear accident. As a result a large quantity of radioactive material was admitted into the Pacific Ocean .... http://www.neonnettle.com

Even liberal Dr. Drew is worried about Hillarys Health
Appearing on KABC’s McIntyre in the Morning, the hosts of the show were expecting Dr. Drew, known as “America’s most trusted physician,” to debunk claims that Hillary is having significant health problems, but Pinsky instead dropped several bombshells.
Pinsky said he and his colleague Dr. Robert Huizenga had already analyzed what medical records on Hillary had been released and were “gravely concerned….not just about her health but her health care.” .... http://www.infowars.com

HEALTH WATCH: Hillary Clinton’s ‘Erratic’ Behavior Raises Eyebrows
Heat Street has compiled evidence of the media’s growing willingness to touch the forbidden question of the Democratic nominee’s health. Does she need to release those medical records to be straight with the public?
What’s going on with Hillary Clinton’s health? That’s a question many people are asking these days. There’s a lot we still don’t know about the mysterious health scare Clinton suffered in December 2012, when she was hospitalized for what was later described as a blood clot on her brain.
The event was shrugged off as a minor scare, and Hillary eventually returned to work as secretary of state, sporting a pair of very thick spectacles. However, in 2014, Bill Clinton revealed that his wife’s “terrible” health episode “required six months of very serious work to get over.” .... http://heatst.com

Expert Analysis of Hillary Clinton’s Physical and Mental Breakdown
Hillary Clinton recently had a breakdown on TV. The media is of course covering this up rather than having an expert medical panel on to discuss her health. Yet what happened to Hillary was obviously a sign of a head injury and stroke.
When a protester appears, Hillary freezes. In psychology you learn that the flight-or-fight response is a myth. A stressful situation trigger a fight, flight, or freeze response.
“Freeze” is what we mean by saying someone has a “deer in the head lights look.” A prey animal freezes when it senses danger it cannot overcome and thus does not risk running away from. By freezing the deer hopes to not be seen .... http://www.dangerandplay.com

Hillary’s falls recall the health questions JFK tried to dodge
The health of a prospective president is one of the most important issues of any campaign, but whether to ask hard questions about a candidate is usually a matter of whose prospective president, and whose health. When the prospective president is a Democrat, the media only sends candy, flowers and best wishes .... http://www.washingtontimes.com

Burner phone: iPhone explodes on cyclist’s leg after fall (PHOTOS)
Gareth Clear was riding his bike with his phone in his back pocket on Sunday, when he lost his balance after his foot missed a pedal as he was about to cycle off.
“I just saw smoke coming out of my back pocket… and then all of a sudden I felt this surging pain,” he explained, describing how he experienced “searing heat” as his phone burnt through his riding shorts in a matter of seconds .... https://www.rt.com

What Happened When Tibetan Monks Underwent Brain Scans
"Davidson’s team flew in monks from Tibet & Nepal for the study and asked them to meditate while undergoing EEG, MRI & FMRI scans. When they 1st looked at the scans, Davidson said the results were so shocking, he thought the equipment was malfunctioning.
