The National Weather Service reported that February temperatures typically average 31.4 degrees, but through Friday the average temperature for the month was just 20.9 degrees. The previous record cold February averaged 22.2 degrees in 1905.
"That should stick, we were well below normal today," said Craig Evanego, a meteorologist with the weather service. "I don't think we're going to catch [1905 temperatures] this year."
Evanego said persistent low-pressure systems across the eastern U.S. are responsible for the extremely cold temperatures. With March on the horizon, Evanego said it's almost time for better weather to hit the region .... http://www.pennlive.com
