CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — A throng of protesters demanding food made a run for the Venezuelan presidential palace on Thursday in a rare, apparently spontaneous outburst of anger at the socialist administration within the heart of Caracas.
More than 100 people charged down the main thoroughfare in central Caracas chanting "No more talk. We want food." They got within about a half dozen blocks of the presidential palace before police in riot gear headed them off and began firing tear gas .... http://bigstory.ap.org

Erdogan Critics Under Siege
Turkish authorities are escalating a crackdown on President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s opponents, undeterred by possible risks to the country’s renewed attempts to join the European Union.
In two days, authorities seized control of a leading newspaper and signaled they might strip prominent Kurdish lawmakers of their parliamentary immunity. The moves drew a tepid response from the EU on the eve of talks on Monday between Turkish and bloc officials on how to handle the influx of Syrian refugees.
With the EU increasingly seeking Turkey’s help to contain Europe’s worst refugee crisis since World War II, and Ankara’s membership talks at an early stage, Erdogan’s allies are betting the escalation won’t damage Turkey’s ties with the bloc .... http://www.bloomberg.com

New York City’s police union is calling for a boycott of Quentin Tarantino movies
The NYPD doesn’t want you watching Quentin Tarantino films.
The PBA, which represents New York City’s police officers, has condemned Tarantino after he marched with and spoke to police brutality protesters over the weekend. In a statement issued Sunday PBA president Patrick Lynch said that “New Yorkers need to send a message to this purveyor of degeneracy that he has no business coming to our city to peddle his slanderous ‘Cop Fiction.’ It’s time for a boycott of Quentin Tarantino’s films.”
Tarantino, who’s known for making films that are pretty gory whether they involve cops or not, has a new movie, The Hateful Eight, due to come out this December. He joined protestors in New York on Saturday and spoke out against police brutality. AP reports that the director flew in from California for the event, which was organized by activist group RiseUpOctober .... http://fusion.net

"A Generation In Crisis" - The World Needs 5 Million Jobs/Month To Stymie Youth Extremism
The world needs at least 600 million new jobs in the next decade for young people
The World Bank has an unsettling message for young people around the globe: Whether you're male or female, live in Tunisia or the U.S., you will struggle to find a job.
Across regions and continents, people 15 to 29 years old are at least twice as likely as adults to be unemployed.
Over the next decade, a billion more young people will enter the job market—and only 40 percent are expected to be able to enter jobs that currently exist. The global economy will need to create 600 million jobs over the next 10 years: that’s 5 million jobs each month simply to keep employment rates constant .... http://www.zerohedge.com

Air France exec 'almost lynched' in job cut protests
Paris (AFP) - Air France-KLM's human resources manager had his shirt stripped from him as he was "almost lynched" on Monday by workers protesting a plan to cut 2,900 jobs from the struggling airline.
Bosses were unveiling a revamped restructuring plan after pilots rejected an earlier proposal to work longer hours.
But the board meeting was cut short when hundreds of striking workers stormed into the airline's headquarters in Roissy, outside Paris.

In Japan, Tens of Thousands Anti-War Protesters Reject Return to Militarism
Tens of thousands of people gathered outisde the Japanese parliament building on Sunday to reject plans put forth by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe that would see an aggressive expansion of the nation's armed forces despite a long-standing constitutional mandate for a "defense only" military posture.
The enormous crowd—estimated by organizers as more than 120,000 people—is opposing a set of bills moving through the country's legislature which would allow the country's military to engage in overseas fighting and ratchet up spending on new weapons systems. Despite loud public protest against the plan, Abe has continued to defend the plan.

New Zealand government slammed by rights group for blasphemy law ‘enacted by stealth’
New Zealand has come under stinging criticism from the New Zealand Humanist Society (NZHS) for adopting the Harmful Digital Communications Act, which is believed to be one of the world’s strictest blasphemy laws.
The NZHS described the law that received Royal assent on July 2 as “an embarrassing step backwards and a severe blow to free speech.” The society said the new act seeking to put an end to cyber-bullying can land people in prison for up to two years for committing blasphemy.
The NZHS also believes the law was introduced “by the back door.” .... http://www.rt.com

‘We will drive them out': Christians gather to protest the Satanic Temple’s statue unveiling
The Baphomet statue was originally to be placed at the Oklahoma statehouse in a bid to counter a Ten Commandments monument there. The state Supreme Court ruled public property couldn’t be used for religious displays, a victory for the Satanic Temple’s efforts to retain religious — or nonreligious — plurality, according to the New York Times.
The Satanic Temple promised “The Unveiling” to be a “night of “chaos, noise, and debauchery… a hedonistic celebration,” along with provocative performances and artwork, according to the event page .... http://www.rawstory.com

Gays and Atheists Leave Surprising Comments for the Christian Bakers Who Refused to Make a Gay Wedding Cake and Were Fined $135,000
The crowdfunding campaign in support of the Christian bakers who were fined $135,000 in “compensatory damages for emotional, mental and physical suffering,” after they declined to make a wedding cake for a lesbian couple has brought in more than $352,000, but it’s what some donors are saying in the comments section of the Continue to Give donation platform that is truly surprising.
Among the more than 7,600 people who gave donations and commented in support of Aaron and Melissa Klein, the embattled owners of Sweetcakes by Melissa, were atheists, gays and other unlikely allies who offered kind words and financial support to the couple.
These individuals made the decision to help, despite disagreeing with the Kleins on the gay marriage issue.
“I am a gay man and can’t [believe] that people cannot hold their religious beliefs when conducting business. I think this was a money making scheme by his couple and others in the gay community,” wrote one anonymous donor .... http://www.theblaze.com
