Rioters set cars on fire, loot shops in Stockholm suburb (PHOTOS, VIDEOS)
Police in Sweden were forced to fire warning shots after a group of unidentified persons ran riots in the Rinkeby district of Stockholm late on Monday, setting cars on fire, throwing stones at police and looting local stores.
A police officer was injured during the clashes, forcing law enforcers to fire several warning shots at the crowd, Swedish public service broadcaster SVT reported, citing a local police spokesperson.

Far-right Sweden Democrats neck-and-neck in poll with 2nd most popular party
The far-right anti-immigration party Sweden Democrats are tying for second place with the center-right opposition, a new poll shows. It comes as right-wing parties across Europe see Donald Trump’s victory as a welcome defeat for the establishment.
According to a poll published on Wednesday by Aftonbladet newspaper, support for the Sweden Democrats (SD) party rose to 21.5 percent, compared with the 13 percent they got in the 2014 general election. While the ruling Social Democrats maintain their lead of 25.7 percent, the Sweden Democrats (SD) are gaining ground on the Moderate Party, the largest opposition party with a popularity of 22 percent.
SD popularity figures are rising for a third month in a row, Aftonbladet adds.

Swedish minister resigns after comparing Israel to Nazi Germany
Sweden`s housing minister has resigned after footage of him comparing the treatment of Palestinians by Israel to that of the Jews by the Nazis surfaced in local media. The politician has recently come under fire for his alleged ties to Turkish neo-fascist groups.

Women in Sweden warned to not go out alone after dark following series of sex attacks
Police officers have warned women in the Swedish city of Ostersund to not go out alone following a series of sex attacks.
There have been at least nine cases of violent attacks against women after dark over the last few weeks, according to authorities.
The worrying trend has led local police chief Stephen Jerand to issue the advice to women.
He said: "It is always a consideration whether to go out with this kind of thing or not.
"But we don’t want to sit here for another week and have more crime victims on our desk."

Sweden plans to expel up to 80,000 asylum-seekers: minister
Stockholm (AFP) - Sweden intends to expel up to 80,000 migrants who arrived in 2015 and whose application for asylum has been rejected, Interior Minister Anders Ygeman said Wednesday.

Israel announces Swedish Foreign Minister persona non grata
Tel Aviv says Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallstrom is not welcome in Israel after she called for an investigation into the large number of Palestinians being killed by Israeli forces.
“Given the incendiary and aggressive nature” of Wallstrom’s comments, “we have made it clear that she is not welcome in Israel” said Israeli foreign ministry spokesman Emmanuel Nahshon on Wednesday. Refugees refuse beds at Swedish holiday park
Two buses packed with refugees arrived at the park in Lima in west Sweden on Sunday, but around 30 passengers initially refused to disembark.
Charlotte Jacobsson, a press spokesperson for Sweden's Migration Board (Migrationsverket) confirmed to The Local that a number of the asylum seekers had felt uncomfortable being surrounded by so much forest.
"Yes, that is the information we had from some people," she said.

The anti-immigration Sweden Democrats are the country’s largest party with 25 percent support
In last year’s election, the Sweden Democrats more than doubled their support and won 13 percent of the vote, becoming the third largest party, on an agenda to cut the number of asylum seekers coming to Sweden by 90 percent.

Assange can’t leave embassy, UK wants to arrest him no matter what – attorney
With Swedish prosecutors dropping some of the sex crime allegations against Julian Assange and one more allegation expiring August 18, the WikiLeaks founder still cannot leave the embassy because he will be arrested “no matter what… because of the US,” Assange’s attorney tells RT.

Sweden hospital to open emergency center for male rape victims
A Stockholm hospital will soon become the first medical center in Sweden with an emergency department for male rape victims. The move is to ensure “gender equal” care for victims of both sexes.
Södersjukhuset hospital's newest addition will open in October, and will admit men and boys who have been sexually assaulted.
"The general perception is that men cannot be raped," Lotti Helström, a senior physician at the hospital, told Sveriges Radio, as quoted by The Local.

Neo-Nazi activity in Sweden doubles in 3 years, anti-racist group says
Neo-Nazi rallies and PR activities in Sweden, including putting up stickers, have rocketed by 20 percent in the last three years, reaching record heights, despite a decline in the number of far-right organizations, the anti-racist Expo Foundation says.
“It's an enormous increase. Just in a couple of years, in three years' time, it has almost doubled. We have never seen this many activities before,” Anna-Sofia Quensel, Expo investigator, told Swedish Radio on Tuesday, The Local reported.
