China is creating a massive “Orwellian” DNA database
In the name of safeguarding its 1.4 billion people, China has been collecting biometric information from millions of people whom it deems potential threats—among them, Uyghurs, migrant workers, and college students—as part of national DNA database.
China’s Ministry of Public Security, which oversees the database, has amassed information for more than 40 million people—the country says it has the world’s biggest database of DNA information (link in Chinese)—as of 2015, according to a report published by Human Rights Watch (HRW) Monday (May 15). For comparison, in the US, the FBI’s national DNA index has 12.7 million offender profiles.
“Mass DNA collection by the powerful Chinese police absent effective privacy protections or an independent judicial system is a perfect storm for abuses,”said Sophie Richardson, China director at HRW. “China is moving its Orwellian system to the genetic level.” .... https://qz.com

China Demands South Korea Remove THAAD Defense System
April 26 (UPI) -- China demanded Seoul remove the U.S. missile defense system THAAD on Wednesday, after the U.S. military moved missiles and road-mobile launchers to a designated site in central South Korea overnight. Beijing's foreign ministry spokesman Geng Shuang condemned THAAD deployment during a regular press briefing and said the move "destroys the regional strategic balance and further prompts tensions on the Korean peninsula," South Korean television network SBS reported. THAAD undermines the national security interests of China, the spokesman said. "Cancel the deployment of THAAD. Otherwise China will decisively take necessary measures," Geng said. North Korea Rejects Multiple Requests from China for Talks
Bloomberg cites “people familiar with the situation” confirming that two high-ranking Chinese officials – Foreign Minister Wang Yi and top Korean affairs diplomat Wu Dawei – had reached out to North Korean officials hoping for dialogue. The officials did not receive a response.
The effort appeared to be related to both President Xi Jinping’s meeting with President Donald Trump in Florida this month and with Chinese officials’ meetings with South Korean diplomats to discuss the situation on the peninsula.
Bloomberg notes that the lack of response from Pyongyang may not necessarily set a new precedent, as “it’s unclear how often Chinese officials request to visit North Korean counterparts, and how often they don’t get a response.” .... http://www.breitbart.com

IMF raises China growth forecast to 6.6% this year, 6.2% in 2018
Beijing (AFP) - The International Monetary Fund Tuesday raised its economic growth forecast for China for this year and next but warned of serious longer-term problems unless it reduces its reliance on credit.
The IMF's forecast for 2017 was 6.6 per cent, compared to a 6.5 percent estimate in January, and 6.2 percent next year compared to 6.0 percent.
"The upward revision...reflects the stronger-than-expected momentum in 2016 and the anticipation of continued policy support," the fund said in its latest World Economic Outlook .... https://www.yahoo.com

Trump to host Chinese President Xi at Mar-a-Lago in April

China Prepares For "Regime Collapse" In North Korea
Over the weekend, following reports that China has banned all North Korean coal imports - in the aftermath of last week's North Korean ballistic missile launch- which marked a troubling escalation in relations between the two formerly "amicable" nations, we discussed how China was tipping its hand that not only was Kim Jong-Un potentially losing a "very big ally", but that it could also lead to "jeopady" for his regime, and a potential political coup in the generally unstable dictatorship.
Now, it appears that the likelihood of a regime collapse in North Korea is being taken seriously by none other than the country's formerly largest trading partner, China, which as SCMP reports, "will take the necessary measures to safeguard national security in the event of the collapse of the neighbouring North Korean regime", a defence official said on Thursday .... http://www.zerohedge.com

There are more than 200 red army schools in China, where children in military uniforms receive 'patriotic education'
In 2008, it was designated a "Red Army primary school" -- funded by China's "red nobility" of revolution-era Communist commanders and their families – one of many such institutions that have been established across the country.
Such schools are an extreme example of the "patriotic education" which China's ruling Communist party promotes to boost its legitimacy -- but which critics condemn as little more than brainwashing.
"The Red Army spirit is a real asset for children. It teaches them to be hardworking and thrifty from a young age," said school manager Mu Chunyong, who oversees the 136 pupils in first through fourth grades .... https://www.yahoo.com

China 'controlling weather and will make it rain over area twice size of France'
China has a weather machine that it claims will make it rain over an area 1.7 times the size of France.
It’s spending millions on aircraft and chemicals that will be sprayed into the sky.
Those chemicals – typically silver iodide or dry ice – will change the metaphysical make up of the cloud.
This forces it to sleet, rain or even snow artificially, on demand.
The project will take about four years to complete.
It’s not a new technology.
Back in 2008, China launched over 1,100 rockets containing silver iodide before the Olympics opening ceremony so Beijing’s skies would be clear for its fireworks display .... https://www.thesun.co.uk
