Coming off a brutal Trumpcare defeat, delivered by members of his own party no less, Trump has decided to return to a strategy of progressing his policy initiatives through executive order. As such, later today President Trump is set to sign a sweeping new "Energy Independence" executive order aimed at promoting domestic oil, coal and natural gas production by reversing much of Obama's efforts to address climate change via his "Clean Power Plan".
Obama’s Clean Power Plan was designed to cut carbon dioxide emissions from electricity by 32% by 2030 compared to 2005 levels and resulted in the collapse of the coal industry, including several large bankruptcies .... http://www.zerohedge.com

This Just Became the World’s Cheapest Form of Electricity Out of Nowhere
Solar power is becoming the world’s cheapest form of new electricity generation, data from Bloomberg New Energy Finance (BNEF) suggests.
According to Bloomberg’s analysis, the cost of solar power in China, India, Brazil and 55 other emerging market economies has dropped to about one third of its price in 2010. This means solar now pips wind as the cheapest form of renewable energy—but is also outperforming coal and gas.

Elon Musk hits back at coal baron who called him a 'fraud' over green subsidies
Trump backer Robert Murray claimed Tesla had received $2bn from taxpayer
Tesla founder Elon Musk has hit back against the CEO of a coal power company who accused him of fraud.
Robert Murray, an outspoken Donald Trump supporter and the CEO of the Murray Energy Corporation – America’s largest coalmining company – went after Musk onCNBC’s Squawk Box on Monday and called Tesla “a fraud”.
“[Musk]’s gotten $2bn from the taxpayer, has not made a penny yet in cashflow,” Murray continued. “Here again: it’s subsidies.”
In response, Musk tweeted that the real fraud going on was “denial of climate science”.
“As for ‘subsidies’, Tesla gets pennies on dollar vs coal. How about we both go to zero?” he said .... https://www.theguardian.com

How Google and other tech giants are betting big on clean energy
Google has bought the future output from two huge wind farms in Norway and Sweden.
Part of the company’s drive to power itself entirely using renewable sources, the electricity will be used to run its European data centres.
The farms are yet to be built though.
The Norwegian project, consisting of 50 turbines near Stavanger, will be ready late next year. The 22 turbines near Mariestad in Sweden, are set to be completed in early 2018 .... https://www.weforum.org

This Vehicle Is Changing the Driving Game
A car with three wheels, two seats and a $6,800 starting price could hit the roads next year.
Elio Motors, a Phoenix-based startup wants to revolutionize the American transportation industry—and it’s off to a good start: It already received more than 53.000 reservations for its ingenious vehicle. Also nice: It was the first startup to go public through crowdfunding.
Founded by Paul Elio in 2008, Elio Motors invented a prototype for a three-wheel, two-seater vehicle. It is a highly fuel-efficient car that can get up to 84 miles per gallon, which is twice the mileage of a standard compact car. How does it do that? Slim design and a light weight .... http://www.theepochtimes.com

Germany produced so much renewable energy it ended up paying people to use it
Last weekend Germany’s power grid was swimming in renewable energy, so much so that power prices went negative. The country was generating so much renewable energy on Sunday that, for a few hours, residents actually earned money from using electricity.
The weather was the cause of this monumental occasion—it was a particularly sunny and windy day—which allowed the country’s wind, solar, hydro, and biomass power plants to supply the country with 87 percent of its energy.
Gas plants actually shutdown because of the momentary surge, but nuclear and coal plants were unable to wind-down fast enough, causing a surplus. This extra power on this grid meant for a limited time, some consumers were earning money keeping the lights on .... http://www.geek.com

Big Oil Unexpectedly Backs the Newest Non-Fossil Fuels
Exxon Mobil Corp. is partnering with a company to capture carbon-dioxide emissions from power plants. Total SA, the French oil supermajor, announced a $1.1 billion deal Monday to buy the battery maker Saft Groupe SA, complementing its 2011 purchase of a majority stake in the solar-panel maker SunPower Corp. And the Canadian pipeline company Enbridge Inc. announced Tuesday it will pay $218 million for stakes in offshore wind farms as it attempts to double its low-carbon generating capacity.
While fossil fuel companies have been dabbling in clean energy for years, they typically stayed close to their roots by focusing on ethanol and other biofuels. This round of investments takes them into the heart of the clean energy industry. As crude prices struggle to recover and growth projections for renewables soar, oil companies see a chance to diversify .... http://www.bloomberg.com

China creates 'artificial star' three times hotter than the sun, paving the way for the end of burning fossil fuels
Scientists in China have created an 'artificial star' that is three times hotter than the sun , paving the way for the end of fossil fuels.
Physicists have engineered a way to make hydrogen gas that heats up to a whopping 50 million C.
And crucially, they've been able to maintain that temperature for a record 102 seconds.
While it might not sound hugely impressive, the only other attempt to reach this high a temperature was done by German scientists, who managed 80 million C - but only for a fraction of a second.

UNICEF – About 700,000 children in Donbass, Eastern Ukraine, could freeze to death
The lives of children and other vulnerable groups in the Donbass region is under threat because of the onset of cold weather. This was announced by the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF). “The lives of some 700,000 children and other groups of people will be at risk unless the water-supply network is repaired in the affected regions, ” UNICEF said in a statement.
William Fellowes, the representative of the organization in Ukraine, said that the supply of water in the regions of Donetsk and Lugansk is difficult due to damage to water pipes and other infrastructure during the conflict. UK Government 'pays £6bn a year in subsidies to fossil fuel industry'
The Government gives the fossil-fuel industry nearly £6bn a year in subsidies, almost twice the financial support it provides to renewable-energy providers, according to new research.
A study by the Overseas Development Institute think-tank challenges the popular conception that green energy such as wind and solar power requires disproportionate taxpayer support.
Britain gave an average of £5.9bn worth of subsidies a year to fossil-fuel firms such as BP and Shell in 2013 and 2014, most of it in the form of tax breaks to help boost declining North Sea production, according to the institute .... http://www.independent.co.uk
