Another Huge Global Cyber Attack Is Underway, Drastically Slows Computers and Servers

As the world reels from the WannaCry ransomware attack, it’s now emerged that a second, potentially larger attack, is already under way. It seems the widespread proliferation of military-grade cyberweapons has ushered in a new era of digital crime.

Cyber bandits have again deployed both the EternalBlue and DoublePulsar exploits developed and used by the NSA which were released by the ShadowBrokers hackers back in April .... https://www.youtube.com

Caught On Tape: Hackers Take Control Of A Moving Tesla From Miles Away

As such, we suspect that Chinese hackers posting the first-ever evidence on youtube that they can hack into moving Teslas and control the vehicles from miles away won't be of much concern to shareholders either.

Nevertheless, we present the following startling footage of Tesla Model S vehicles being remotely controlled by hackers who demonstrate the ability to manipulate everything from overriding the internal displays to opening locked doors and slamming on the brakes while the car is moving. Seems pretty safe, right? .... http://www.zerohedge.com

A hacker who stole and sold unfilmed movie and TV scripts, and even sex tapes, from the email addresses of celebrities, pleaded guilty to his crimes Monday.

Alonzo Knowles, 23, of Freeport in the Bahamas, was arrested in December after travelling to America to meet an undercover Homeland Security agent who he thought wanted to buy scripts and sexually explicit videos.

Anonymous claims to have leaked the personal details of Donald Trump

The hacktivist collective has posted a video that - they claim - links to the phone number and social security number of the presidential hopeful.

It comes days after the cyber-crusaders declared "total war" on Mr. Trump and vowed to shut down his "inconsistent and hateful" campaign websites.

Released on YouTube earlier today, the video shows a Guy Fawkes mask accompanied by a sinister computerised voice-over .... http://www.mirror.co.uk

Google raises bounty to $100,000 for hacking its Chromebook

Google has doubled its “jackpot” for any hacker who can crack one of its Chromebooks. The top prize now stands at $100,000 after no one managed to successfully hack the laptops the last round.

The winner will have to compromise a Chromebook or Chromebox in guest mode with device persistence. In other words, to grab the reward, a hacker must crack a Chromebook while it is in a locked-down state and it should remain hacked after a reboot.

The tech giant added a “download protection bypass bounty” for anyone who uncovers ways to skirt Chrome’s Safe Browsing download protection features .... https://www.rt.com/usa

Was This Dead Oil Exec’s Car Hacked?

You ever notice with stories like this one, investigators never even consider the possibility of foul play?

The media is already floating the idea of suicide, yet murder? Never once mentioned, as if it’s not even remotely feasible that someone might want to silence a billionaire oil exec who co-founded the largest independent gas producer in the country on the morning after he’s federally indicted on bid rigging charges? .... http://truthstreammedia.com

Anonymous declares ‘total war’ on Trump, plans April attack

Hacking collective Anonymous has vowed “total war” against Donald Trump, making a “call to arms” by summoning fellow hacktivists to unite with them in an attack against all of his websites on April Fool’s Day.

In a resurgence of its #OpTrump campaign, the group released a new video addressing the controversial Republican candidate directly.

“Dear Donald Trump, we have been watching you for a long time and what we see is deeply disturbing,” a masked figure declares in customary Anonymous fashion.

“You have shocked the entire planet with your appalling actions and ideals,” he continues.

The focus is then turned to hacktivists and citizens: “This is a call to arms...we need you to shut down his websites, research and expose what he doesn’t want the public to know. We need you to dismantle his campaign and sabotage his brand.” .... https://www.rt.com

Cars can be hacked by their tiny, plug-in insurance discount trackers

The latest way to remotely hack a car? By tapping into one of those plug-in tracking devices from insurance companies.

In some cases, hackers can send a text message — and disable a car’s brakes, according to research presented by computer security experts on Monday.

It’s a relatively simple hack. And while researchers only tested one type of device, it raises serious questions about how dangerous it is to use them at all .... http://money.cnn.com

Hackers caused a blackout for the first time, researchers say

Hackers caused a power outage in Ukraine during holiday season, researchers say, signalling a potentially troubling new escalation in digital attacks.

"This is the first incident we know of where an attack caused a blackout," said John Hultquist, head of iSIGHT Partner's cyberespionage intelligence practice. "It's always been the scenario we've been worried about for years because it has ramifications across broad sectors."

Half of the homes in Ukraine's Ivano-Frankivsk region were left without power for several hours on December 23rd, according to a local report that attributed the blackout to a virus that disconnected electrical substations from the grid. Researchers at iSight on Monday said their analysis of malware found on the systems of at least three regional electrical operators confirmed that a "destructive" cyberattack led to the power outage .... https://www.washingtonpost.com

Twitter issues warnings of 'state-sponsored hacking'

Washington (AFP) - Twitter has warned some of its users that their accounts on the messaging platform may be the target of "state-sponsored hackers."

It was unclear how many users received the warnings, which were issued over the weekend and were the first of their kind for Twitter.

Coldhak, a Canadian-based non-profit group, posted a copy of the warning that Twitter sent them.

"As a precaution, we are alerting you that your Twitter account is one of a small group of accounts that may have been targeted by state-sponsored actors," read the message .... http://finance.yahoo.com

Hello Barbie Security

Mattel, with the help of San Francisco startup ToyTalk, recently released an Internet of Things (IoT) enabled Barbie doll that children can talk to, responding with over “8,000 lines of recorded content." To produce all of this content it relies on a constant connection to the internet.

Utilizing a user’s home Wi-Fi network, it sends audio recordings to ToyTalk’s servers for analysis and to generate a response. Every audio clip is stored in the cloud where parents can later review and share themonline. This data being mined and used for marketing purposes is a big privacy concern, but so is the possibility of this data or the device itself being susceptible to hackers. However, Mattel assures users that they are “committed to safety and security”and that the doll “conforms to applicable government standards”. The release of the doll has already stirred up some controversy on the internet, but until now it has all been speculation.

As security researchers we thought it prudent to explore whether or not Mattel was able to achieve the level of privacy and security that they claim .... http://www.somersetrecon.com

A Dark Web Hacker Is Hunting Potential Pedophiles to Extort Them for Money

As the saying goes, no one on the internet knows you’re a dog. Or no one knows you’re a hacker pretending to be a teenage girl in order to blackmail pedophiles.

One such digital “vigilante” is a hacker who, after posing as a 14-year-old girl, waits for possible pedophiles to approach in a chat room. From here, the hacker attempts to unravel the person’s motives, identify them, and then publish their personal details on a site on the dark web .... http://motherboard.vice.com

Two Israelis and an American busted in largest-ever heist of customers’ bank data

Three sophisticated hackers broke into the computer systems of JPMorgan Chase, Dow Jones and 10 other finance-related companies — and used the data to run a pump-and-dump stock scheme, illegal online casinos and other scams that netted them hundreds of millions of dollars, the feds charged on Tuesday.

“By any measure, the data breaches of these firms were breathtaking in scope and in size. The defendants allegedly stole personal information of over 100 million customers, including 83 million customers from one bank alone, the single largest theft of customer data from US financial institutions ever,” US Attorney Preet Bharara said, referring to the 2014 hack of JPMorgan Chase.

Gery Shalon, 31, and Ziv Orenstein, 40, Israeli citizens in custody in that country; Joshua Aaron, 31, a US citizen believed to be on the run in Russia, and other co-conspirators allegedly used 200 different IDs, including more than 30 fake passports issued by the United States and other nations .... http://nypost.com

Comcast resets 200,000 passwords offered for sale on Dark Web

Comcast says it wasn't hacked, but hundreds of thousands of its customers may have been, forcing the cable giant to reset passwords to email accounts of about 200,000 customers.

The forced password reset came after an independent security researcher spotted an ad on a Dark Web marketplace offering 590,000 Comcast subscriber email addresses and plaintext passwords for $1000 in bitcoins.

A Comcast representative said the company acquired the list of email addresses and discovered that only 200,000 of them were active, and is "working to get this fixed for those customers who may have been impacted," according to the Washington Post .... https://nakedsecurity.sophos.com

Cyber-hackers break into parliamentary computer network and demand ransom from MP

Internet criminals have used a crypto-locker virus to break into the UK parliament’s computer network and demand ransom money from an MP, it has emerged.

In the first successful cyber-attack against parliament’s secure network, hackers compromised several computers and unearthed confidential documents relating to Labour Party’s Shadow Digital Minister Chi Onwurah and her employees.

The virus, which was identified in May, locked several files stored in a shared drive serving around 8,500 people in parliament, including MPs, lords and their staff.

It spread rapidly but was stopped before it could reach highly confidential files containing private information about constituents .... https://www.rt.com/uk

'Anonymous Masks' Photo Stirs Controversy On Guy Fawkes Day

Today is the biggest day of the year for members of the Anonymous collective, as it is Guy Fawkes Day -- a celebration of the man who inspired the eponymous masks of the movement -- as well as the date of the Million Mask March, a worldwide protest aligned with the leaderless group.

But a photo (see above) that appeared on Reddit's front page Tuesday morning has generated a controversy that shows the reality behind the Guy Fawkes masks and the fact that at least some of them appear to be manufactured in what appears to be a third-world sweatshop .... http://www.ibtimes.com
