FACELOOK Facebook wants to spy on people through their smartphone camera and analyse the emotions on their face

The creepy designs, which date back to 2015, were discovered by software company CBI Insight, which has been analysing Mark Zuckerberg’s “emotion technology”.

Patent documents contain illustrations showing a person holding a smartphone with a camera taking a picture from which “emotion characteristics” like smiling or frowning are detected.

If the person appears to like what they’re seeing, Facebook could place more of the same type of content in front of them .... https://www.thesun.co.uk

Mark Zuckerberg's Harvard commencement speech included calls for a universal basic income and affordable childcare

Mark Zuckerberg, the founder and chief executive of Facebook, has declared that the “struggle of our time” is against the forces of authoritarianism and nationalism, as he sets out a political agenda for a more equal, connected world.

“There is something wrong with our system when I can leave here and make billions of dollars in ten years, when millions of students can’t afford to pay off their loans, let alone start a business,” he said to a crowd of new graduates and their families gathered in the rain.

The speech will only increase speculation that Mr Zuckerberg harbours political — and even presidential — ambitions, as he advocated for the exploration of specific policies such as a universal basic income, affordable childcare and healthcare that is not tied to a single employer .... https://www.ft.com

Scientists have found a way to photograph people in 3D through walls using Wi-Fi

Wi-Fi can pass through walls.

This fact is easy to take for granted, yet it's the reason we can surf the web using a wireless router located in another room.

But not all of that microwave radiation makes it to (or from) our phones, tablets, and laptops. Routers scatter and bounce their signal off objects, illuminating our homes and offices like invisible light bulbs.

Now, German scientists have found a way to exploit this property to take holograms, or 3D photographs, of objects inside a room — from outside it.

"It can basically scan a room with someone's Wi-Fi transmission," Philipp Holl, a 23-year-old undergraduate physics student at the Technical University of Munich, told Business Insider.

Holl initially built the device as part of his bachelor thesis with the help of his academic supervisor, Friedemann Reinhard .... http://www.businessinsider.com

Washington (AFP) - Facebook said Wednesday it is hiring an extra 3,000 staff to root out violent content as the social media giant faces scrutiny for a series of killings and suicides broadcast on its platform.

"If we're going to build a safe community, we need to respond quickly," chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said on his Facebook page.

"We're working to make these videos easier to report so we can take the right action sooner -- whether that's responding quickly when someone needs help or taking a post down." .... https://www.yahoo.com

No joke: Spanish prime minister's party suggests ban on internet memes

Spain’s ruling Popular Party (PP) has presented a reform proposal to Congress that could result in the banning of memes, social network users’ way of gaining comic revenge on the politicians that rule our lives.

15% Of Accounts On TWITTER Discussing Elections Are Bots

Computer science researchers at the University of Southern California created sophisticated algorithms to figure out, during a one-month period including presidential debates, how many tweets about Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton were generated not by humans, but by software.

“Looking at the content itself, but also the timing of the activity, the network structures, how information spreads from one account to another and so forth. Eventually we realized that about 15 percent of the accounts on the Twitter feed discussing elections in the U.S. are bots,” Research assistant professor Emilio Ferrara told KCBS .... http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com

Remember that scene in Minority Report where Tom Cruise walks through the shopping centre and gets bombarded with advertising?

Yahoo's latest plan isn't quite as bad as that, but it's still a step in the same direction.

The company, which already has a bad track record with security , has filed a patent for a camera-equipped "smart" billboard that will personalise adverts in the real world.
