How Google and other tech giants are betting big on clean energy
Google has bought the future output from two huge wind farms in Norway and Sweden.
Part of the company’s drive to power itself entirely using renewable sources, the electricity will be used to run its European data centres.
The farms are yet to be built though.
The Norwegian project, consisting of 50 turbines near Stavanger, will be ready late next year. The 22 turbines near Mariestad in Sweden, are set to be completed in early 2018 .... https://www.weforum.org

Google, by far the world’s most popular and influential Internet search engine, has inexplicably buried a popular eurosceptic website on the second page of search results on the topic, the website’s founder has claimed.

Google has doubled its “jackpot” for any hacker who can crack one of its Chromebooks. The top prize now stands at $100,000 after no one managed to successfully hack the laptops the last round.
The winner will have to compromise a Chromebook or Chromebox in guest mode with device persistence. In other words, to grab the reward, a hacker must crack a Chromebook while it is in a locked-down state and it should remain hacked after a reboot.

Google's fatcat boss was told he “lives in a different world” today after admitting he has no idea how much he gets paid.
Multi-millionaire Matt Brittin, president of Google Europe, Middle East and Africa, was unable to tell MPs the size of his own salary.

Google car AI qualifies as ‘driver' - US regulator
A US traffic regulator has said that the artificial intelligence controlling Alphabet Inc’s Google self-piloted car can be considered a driver just like a human.
In a recently revealed letter, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stated that it “will interpret ‘driver’ in the context of Google’s described motor vehicle design as referring to the SDS [self-driving system] and not to any of the vehicle occupants.”

Ukrainian Media Blames Google for Working for 'Kremlin Propaganda'
On the Ukrainian television show “Podrobnosti” Ukrainian media has proclaimed that Google Translator has been helping... no, not interpreters, but the so-called “Putin’s propaganda.”
Once again Ukraine has found who is to blame for all its misfortunes. This time Ukrainian media went as far as to accuse Google of working for the “Kremlin propaganda.”
Such a declaration has been voiced possibly due to the specifics of translation from Ukrainian to Russian. For example, Google translated the term “revolution of dignity” as “political crisis in Ukraine.”

Google’s self-driving car in first accident involving injury, passengers suffer whiplash
Google revealed that one of its self-driving car prototypes, outfitted with sensors and cameras, was rear-ended in the company’s home town of Mountain View on July 1, in the first accident for a Google car involving human injuries.
The company disclosed the accident on Thursday. Three employees complained of minor whiplash and checked into a hospital. The driver of another car involved in the accident complained of neck and back pain.
According to the accident report filed by Google with the California Department of Motor Vehicles, the self-driving SUV was traveling behind two other cars at about 15 miles per hour as it approached an intersection with a green light, reported the Associated Press .... http://www.rt.com/usa
